How to use Change GIF Speed
- Choose an animated GIF from your device.
- Choose a speed multiplier. 2× halves frame delays; 0.5× doubles them. GIF timing is rounded to hundredths of a second. Frames with zero or missing delay keep their original timing; browsers may impose a minimum playback delay.
- Select Apply and preview, then download the result.
Frames are processed one at a time, so long GIFs are fine. Very large frame dimensions can still exceed the local memory limit, and Reverse keeps every frame in memory at once; resize or shorten the source if needed.
This tool edits animation metadata while preserving the original compressed image data.
Frequently asked questions
- Does changing the speed reduce quality?
- No. Speed only rewrites each frame's delay value. The compressed image data is copied through untouched, so nothing is re-encoded and no quality is lost.
- Why doesn't my GIF play exactly at the speed I chose?
- GIF stores delays in hundredths of a second, so the new timing is rounded to the nearest hundredth. Browsers also enforce a minimum frame delay, so very high multipliers play slower than requested.
- What happens to frames that have no delay?
- Frames with a zero or missing delay keep their original timing rather than being given an invented one, so a static or badly authored GIF is not silently changed.
- What speed range is available?
- 0.1x to 10x. A 2x multiplier halves every delay, and 0.5x doubles them.
- Is my GIF uploaded to a server?
- No. The whole operation runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
