How to use Remove GIF Frames
- Choose an animated GIF from your device.
- Enter frame numbers or ranges to remove, then choose whether to keep the total duration.
- Select Apply and preview, then download the result.
Frames are processed one at a time, so long GIFs are fine. Very large frame dimensions can still exceed the local memory limit, and Reverse keeps every frame in memory at once; resize or shorten the source if needed.
Frames are re-encoded. File size may change. If a composed frame exceeds the GIF color limit, its colors are reduced; the result reports when that happens.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between preserving and shortening the duration?
- Preserve adds each removed frame's time to the frame before it, so the animation still runs for the same length. Shorten simply drops that time, so the animation finishes sooner.
- What happens if I remove the first frame?
- In preserve mode its time moves forward onto the first frame you keep, because there is no earlier frame to hold it. In shorten mode the time is discarded.
- Why was I told a frame exceeds the delay limit?
- A single GIF frame cannot wait longer than 65535 hundredths of a second, about eleven minutes. Preserving the duration can push a frame past that, so remove fewer frames at once or choose Shorten.
- Can I remove every frame?
- No. At least one frame has to remain, otherwise there would be no image left to write.
- Is my GIF uploaded to a server?
- No. Frames are removed in your browser.
